The End

Choice C: So far, is this a novel about race? Class? Gender? Coming of Age?

Place? Select and defend your answer

I think this book is about racism because of what happen with tom Robison. Atticus

was not races unlike people in Maycomb he took the case and did not back down

because he was black. Jem and Scout do not see that line between white and black.

When they were watching the court case they sat where the black people sat. One of

the people that were races was Mr. Ewell. He rape his own daughter beat her, and

blamed it on a black person. And when Tom said he felt sorry for his daughter

everyone was shocked. Because the Ewells are poor but everyone thinks that black

people are always going to be at the bottom of the chart. When he said that it was

shocking to them that a black person was higher than them. Then Mr. Ewell killed Tom

and killed himself. This boo is about racism, and Scout growing up seeing the world,

and what is the good and the bad.

Good things.. and Bad things..

Sabrina Jackson

Q: How do you think the story (what you read so far) would have changed if Scout and

Jem had a mother present in their lives? Would it change for the better or for the

worse? Explain your thoughts.

Journal #6

If Jem and Scouts mom were their lives would change, for the better. If she

was their Scout would act more like a lady, because scout is around a lot of boys

like her dad, brother, and Dill. Aunt Alexandra wouldn't be there with them. I don't

think Aunt Alexandra is a good influence on the kids because she races, and the kids

hate her. Cal is kind of like their mother she give them advice, punishes them when

they do wrong, and the kids love her.

The bad things about the mother being there is the dad wouldn't be close

to the kids as much as the mother. Because he works a lot and the mother would do

most of the work with the kids. Cal wouldn't be there because the mom does the

cooking and the cleaning. They might also be races because Cal not their and they

don't have African American influence, and would believe the people that talk about

them.

fights, fights, fights

Journal #5

Perspective: Scout

Dear Journal

Jem is getting older growing up its seems to me that I am not really maturing faster

than he is. Cal took us to church one day and she talks weird. I mean she talks

weird when she around them. When she seen them she talked like them but when she was

around us she speak educated. When we came home from church I seen my Aunt

Alexandra on the porch she says she is going to stay here for "a while". That could

be mouths or even years. I don't have a deep connection with her we have very short

conversations. She and Atticus told me that this was good because they think i need

a feminine influence. Personally i think she should be here nothing bads going on,

and the bad thing about her being here is that she wants to get rid of Cal. I asked

Atticus id i could go to Cals house but Aunt Alexandra answer the question for me

and said no. I told her i didn't asked her and Atticus told me to apologize and

after i did i went to my room. Atticus and Aunt Alexandra got into a fight about

that. I thought they were talking about me and i felt like running away but they

were talking about Cal. Also that night me and Jem got into a fight because he said

if i wouldn't annoy auntie he would spanked me he thinks he could spank me he does

not have that right. So I tackled him and he punched me then i tackle again and

Atticus heard us and told me to go to bed. He was the one who stared it. When i went

to go to bed i felt something I told Jem to see what was under and it was dill he

ran away from home. We got him something to eat and when to bed. Atticus didn't tell

his Auntie which was good so he wouldn't get in trouble.

Growing up

Perspective: Scout

Journal # 4

Dear Journal,

Were growing up Atticus is not getting any younger he doesn't do any cool jobs he

just works in an office not in a drugs store did not drive a dump truck for the

county and was not a sheriff. No he just a boring old office worker, and the other

day when Jem asked him to play some foot ball he says "I am too old for that". He

even wears glasses he was nearly blind on his left eye. He did do things that our

schoolmates did. Its just seems that Atticus is old and boring. But one day he

changed the way I thought. Me and jem were walking one day and seen a dog, it wasn't

just any normal dog walking on the street this dog looked sick and deadly. Jem told

me to get into the house we told Cal and she called and told everybody on the block

to stay in their house and there was a mad dog on the loose! She called the sheriff

and Atticus and came down to look at the dog. He said the dog was deadly and told

Atticus to shoot the dog. Atticus never liked guns or shooting any thing. Jem had a

play gun and he said " you can shoot blue jays and cans but it is a sin to kill a

mocking bird". I didn't under stand what that meant so I asked Ms Maudie she said

mocking bird are special and they copy whatever noise they hear and sing

beautifully. Atticus took the gun aimed and shot the dog. I was so surprise when Ms.

Maudie told me that Atticus was the deadly shot in Maycomb county in his time. Now i

didn't feel so ashamed of him. Later the week, we started going to town more. the

only way there was to go through Mrs. Dubose's pathway. Every time we walk by her

house, she would say something mean about Atticus and us. Jem couldn't take it

anymore he got so mad that he went to the store bought a baton with his birthday

money, gave it to me, broke it, and trashed her yard. Atticus found out and for his

punishment he had to read to Mrs. Dubose's was a month. he read to her for about a

week and unfortunately died. before she died she left a box for Jem it was a flower

Jem looked very angry and threw the box in the fire but later he was hold and

appreciate the flower I guess that was her way of saying I am sorry.

The tree is dead

Prospective: Jem

Chapters 7,9

Dear Journal,

Me and scout were walking to school last month and as we were walking to school I said “Look

Scout!” someone had put cement in our tree. At first Scout said someone else stuff, we both agreed to

leave it there for a while, and if someone comes and gets it then its their tree. We left it for three days

and no one came for it so we made it our tree. Me and Scout were thinking who put cement in our tree.

Maybe Mr Nathan? The next day sure enough it was him he said the tree was dying and that's why he

did that. But Atticus said the tree was healthy. A month went by it turned from Autumn to Winter and

old Mr. Radley died. Atticus went to go to the Radley 's house but didn't see Boo Radley. The next

mourning Scout woke up and said the world was ending but it was just snow, it was her first time

seeing snow. I seen snow before but it rarely snows here. Me and Scout build a snowman it look just

like Mr. Avery. Atticus said it looked lovely but it wasn't nice for Mr. Avery. The next morning woke

me and Scout up it seem it seemed to be a fire at Ms. Matties house. Atticus told us to stay at the

Radleys front gate. We were watching the fire man trying to take out the fire. We also see people taking

out furniture from here house. We went home and made breakfast Atticus told Scout to say thank you to

Boo Radley. Scout asked “Why?”. Atticus said while she was watching the firemen putting out the fire

Boo came out and put a blanket over Scout to keep her warm, if only Scout had turn around.

The hole in the tree

Perspective: Scout
4-7
Journal #2
Dear journal

I was walking home from school today and I looked in the hole of the tree and seen a

piece of unchewed gum. I ate it but Jem told me to spit it out and if I didn't he

would tell Cal. As we were walking by the Radleys place I reached into the hole and

seen another pointy piece of tinfoil. We ran home, opened the tinfoil, and seen

really old Indian heads. I said what if that was someone hiding spot and if we

should keep them. Jem suggested that we would keep them and ask if it was anyone if

it was theirs. Dill came the next day we usually played a lot of games when he was

around but we all got tried of the same games. I suggested that we get into a tire

and roll it down a hill I think Jem got mad at me because he pushed me hard down the

hill. The tire rolled all the way down to the Radleys place luckily I got out the

tire. I told Jem to go get it but he was too scared we made fun of him a little then

he went to the gate quickly got the tire and bought it back. We played another game

call Boo Radley he was the scary neighbor that no one knew about. Atticus asked us

what we were playing Jem said we were doing nothing because if he knew what we were

playing he would get mad, but I think he already knows. Jem kicked me out of the

games because he got tired of my nagging so I went to be with Ms. Maudie she was

nice she would let us play in the yard as long as we would be careful of her

flowers. I asked her what does she thing of Boo Radley. She first tells me that his

real name is Aurthur and that she knew him when he was little and he was a nice kid,

and he would hurt anything. She also thinks he is still alive. Dill and Jem tried to

give a note to Boo that says to come out and hang out with us but Atticus caught

them and told us that we should respect his privacy.

The new kid/teacher

Journal #1
Chapters 1-3
Perspective: Scout

Dear Journal,

I met a new kid named dill. His real name is Charles his name is longer than him.

When we first seen him we thought he was a strange little kid but we started to like

him a little bit. Dill dared my brother Jem,, to get Mr. Radley out of his house. Jem

was too afraid to knock on the door and make him come out so told Jem to only touch

the house. He was so scared at first but he knew he had been dare and he never turned

down a dare. I didn’t think that Jem would do that he looked so sacred I would have

been to. That house is one of the creepyest and scariest things I have ever seen in

my life. It was my first day of school my new teacher was not very nice. She whipped

me and told me to stand in the coner just because I knew how to read. She said to

tell my dad to stop teaching me and thats the teachers job. Later she also offered

Walter Cunningham a quarter because he had no lunch. “You can pay me back tomarro

Walter” she said. But he just stood there and shook his head. He was poor he couldn't

pay her back and, he probably never seen quarter in his life. He came from a poor

family that only repays with food from their farm. I explian to her that he was poor

and probably never seen a quarter in his life. I also told her he couldn't pay her

back. She just stood their looking at me like I was jokeing and making this up, but

it is true he is poor.
